Description
Description
Away from the general practice of the real estate market, the Haus der Statistik (House of Statistics) has existed on Berlin's Alexanderplatz since 2015. The model project of alternative urban development was initiated by an alliance of local actors from the fields of art, culture, architecture and urbanism. The Haus der Statistik currently covers an area of around 46,000m2 in six buildings (Haus A-D). The project stands for solidarity, sustainability and openness to the world. The focus is on democratic and responsible urban development that builds on existing structures and makes them usable as a common good. Buildings are reused, converted, built on.
The project creates living space for refugees, students and senior citizens. These will be combined with spaces for art, culture and education as well as a citizen-oriented administration (»city hall of tomorrow«).
Goals
Goals
Integration of living, housing, education and work as well as the creation of a cultural offer and an accessible and future-oriented administration. Community life in open, democratic structures and the formation of local identities. Housing for groups (e.g.: refugees, students and senior citizens), for whom the housing market mostly offers only very limited space.
Outcomes
Outcomes
Creating housing for groups for which little space is usually kept free or made available on the housing market. Strengthening local identity and creating community spaces. Creation of open neighbourhood structures through participatory spaces and linking of living, housing, work and the formation of collective democratic structures.
